How To Actually Get Traffic To Your New Blog

So you have finally got around to writing your first blog post and you may be wondering…how exactly are people going to find this blog post when there are thousands of links on Google and mine is somewhere beyond page 10? It’s a great question that we are going to break down today step-by-step. I’m going to give you some tips and tricks that you can use to drive traffic to your new blog, successfully!

Tip #1: Write a Catchy Header!

We need to make sure your header is written in a way that will grab your target audience’s attention. It doesn’t need to be something shocking that will WOW the person, but it does need to build curiosity and interest. Tell the client you will be teaching them something without actually telling them. Do you know how? If you don’t that’s okay, I’m going to teach you right now.

So the title of this current post of mine is called “How to Actually Get Traffic to Your New Blog”. Can you imagine if it was just called “Blog Information” or “Get Traffic to Page”? That doesn’t sound good at all. So when you are writing a post title, try to use words such as “How to”, “Step-by-Step”, “Did You Know” “X Tips for Getting Trafficking to Your Blog”,etc. In other words, try to pair the noun (what you will be writing about) with a verb (action word) to gain attention. Of course, you don’t want to be scammy so make sure it fits the structure of the post. You don’t want to write step-by-step and there be no actual steps on how to do something in the post.

Trick #1: Make Sure Your Header is Optimized!

Here’s the catch! While you need to have a catchy title, you also must make sure you use your keyword in the title. It makes no difference of keyword’s placement in the title, but it should be present. If you don’t know how to choose a keyword or what your keyword is….let’s go to tip #2.

Tip #2: Know Your Topic

Your keyword is basically the topic you are covering, but in summary form. You can pick more than one keyword, but it is best to stick to one per post to increase your chances of ranking higher. So, because my title is in-fact my keyword this time, I will be using a different example. If your blog is titled “10 Tips for Removing Acne Scars”, that will not be your keyword as no one will be searching that exact phrase. So, instead, you can pick a keyword such as “tips to remove acne scars”, or acne scar removal”. So, what if you don’t know how to pick a keyword?

Trick #2: Keywords & Keyword Tracker

The best way to determine which keywords you should use for your page is to use a keyword tracker. My favorite keyword tracker is called Ubersuggest. You can type in the topic of your post and it will generate the post popular related keywords.

Tip #3: Do Not Litter Keywords

Now that you have chosen a keyword, keep in mind that when you are writing, you don’t want to litter the page with your keyword. This means that if your keyword is “tips to remove acne scars”, do not, I repeat, do not, write something like, “Are you looking to remove acne scars from your face? I will show you how to remove acne scars. With these simple steps, your scars from acne will be removed.” Seriously. That is not how we use keywords. This is just an abuse of keywords and will not help you rank better. In fact, Google may penalize you for writing that way by not helping your ranking at all.

Trick #3: Tactical Writing

No matter how much text you have on the page, quality does not equal quantity. You need to use the keywords correctly. So, it depends on how many characters your post is, but I will say it’s best if you use your keyword 3-5 times at most. Something you may not know is that you are able to use the keyword in different word combinations. For example if the keyword is “tips to remove acne scars”, you can use it the way it currently is or say “acne scars removal tips” “removal of acne scar tips” or “scars from acne removal tips”; all of these options are valid for the keyword! As well, your writing will make much more sense if you use them in different variations rather than trying to fit the same keyword multiple times into the post. Your readers will not enjoy it at all because they will feel that you’re just posting the blog post for your ranking and not to actually provide quality content. Your goal is to stay genuine, write the most exceptional content you are able to, and still rank using your keywords. You are not to do anything scammy or use any “quick-fixes”, that is not how we roll here. You will be much better off using keywords correctly and will see much more growth this way. Which is what we want, isn’t it?

Tip #4: Don’t Copy What Everyone Else is Writing About!

Choose a topic you are well knowledgable about. Even if it is nothing something everyone else is writing about, it doesn’t matter. Choose what you are able to write about confidently.

Trick #4: Add Distinction

How can you make this post your own? Write everything in your own words. Don’t go snooping to see what someone else in your same field has written about the topic you have chosen to write on. You are the person writing the blog post. What knowledge have you gained on said topic? Write about it and find out if you’ve learned some new tricks no one has spoken about or if there’s something really awesome you’d like to teach others to do. Whatever it is, be genuine and put it in your own words. Everything will feel much more natural and comfortable when you aren’t trying to copy someone else. Plus, who wants to reach the same thing over and over again on different websites? No one. Which brings me to say this…do not use article spinners. If you don’t know what they are, that’s even better. Write your own content and be original! Your knowledge sets you apart and that’s a beautiful thing.

Tip #5: Add Some Flare

People get very bored and overwhelmed with large amounts of text. It all blurs together and feels more like you’re reading a medical journal. It is wonderful if you have plenty of information to share with readers, however, there are ways we can work to catch the readers attention and this will in turn, actually contribute to getting more traffic to your new blog!

Trick #5: Colors, Bold Text, Large Text, Images, Videos, Gifs, Podcasts!

Visuals and audio will bring your blog post to a new level, attracting readers’ eyes to the imagery on display. You know what that means? More people will read your post and may become a regular visitor on your blog!

If you are doing a step-by-step guide, consider adding visuals of each step to show exactly what you are describing. This works great if you are writing about repairs, how to build an object, how to draw an image, or how to perform a specific exercise.

GIFS, moving images, are also a very fun addition to blogs! Not only do they add a new flare to the blog, but they help boost marketing. They’re colorful, fun, and exciting to look at because they move. There is actually some science behind this which is fascinating. According to Thermopylae Sciences + Technology, they say that “humans process visual data better than still images. The human brain processes images 60,000 times faster than text, and 90 percent of information transmitted to the brain is visual. Since we are visual by nature, we can use this skill to enhance data processing and organizational effectiveness.” Captivating information, isn’t it? So there you have it, using GIFs is a great way to draw readers attention to your post which will means it will help the increase the blogs traffic!

Another great option is to include a video. This is perfect if your viewers prefer both visual and auditory stimuli. This is also great because your viewers from platforms such as YouTube will discover your website which means you will bring even more new traffic to your blog! Videos also work great if you’d like to show a virtual tour for hotels or residences for sale.

Some people prefer to use podcasts instead of writing! In this case, you are welcome to use the blog as the transcript for the blog for those who are hard of hearing or those who favor reading over listening.

Lastly, while you are going through your posts and adding visuals, do not forget about the typography! A great way to keep readers’ attention is to vary the text size and style. Use bold text for something important that you’d like the reader’s eyes to move to. Italics can be used to emphasize a book, media, or person you a referencing. As well, it can be used for quotes. Varying text size also helps make the blog post more interesting! The title should be bigger, sub-titles smaller, and text even smaller. If you’d like, you can also add color to the text for even more flare!

Tip #6: Connect With Others

Include social icons on your blog posts page to allow others to easily share your content with a simple click!

Trick #6: Link Link Link!

In the beginning, this means either asking friends and family to share your posts on social media platforms such as Instagram, Google My Business, Facebook, and Twitter.

Alternatively, if you have are active on social media, include a link to your newest blog posts to attract readers! Eventually your traffic will grow and your posts will be shared by newcomers!

Include external links throughout your blog post. Are you quoting a certain study? Make sure to link it. Is there someone you are referencing that inspired you? Link their website! External links are great to use because they’re a free tool to help boost ranking. Consider as though you are connecting with others by linking your website to theirs. A huge bonus would be if the website you are providing a link for would link back to you by including your website on their posts as well! This will help both websites improve in ranking because you give each other extra support by mentioning the links on your websites.

Tip #7: …and Connect Within Your Website!

It’s almost important to connect your website pages together. Remember that you have many pages besides the one blog you are writing. It’s definitely a great idea to make connections with other business’s websites as we just spoke, but linking to your own pages also brings huge benefits for ranking.

Trick #7: Internal Links

If you are referencing a service you provide and have further information on another one of your pages, consider adding a link to the page. For example, if you would like assistance with writing a perfect blog post from scratch, you can click here. See? Just like that! If you have any to reference on your post such as another post you wrote before going deeper into a subject, a certain product, a study you’ve conducted; all of this is great! A word of advice would be to try and not link your contact page unless that is what your topic was about. It’s much better if you like to pages for quality information that the reader can then browse.

Tip #8: Use Other Platforms

You are not limited to connecting only with other websites through linking. Use all of the platforms out there to help gain traffic! If you are highly active on other platforms, consider sharing your blog post link each time you post a new one.

Trick #8: Share the Post With Others!

If you are a YouTube video creator, add a link to your blog (a great external link!). If you are active on Instagram, either add the link to your bio or create a swipe-up each time you post a new post! Do this for all your social media to gain traffic to your blog from several platforms you are active on.

Tip #9: Start a Discussion!

Hear what your readers have to say! Create a comment box after your post to receive feedback. End the post with an open-ended question that will start a dialogue between you and your readers.

Tip #9: Utilize the Comments Section

This is also a wonderful way to build friendships and business relationships. See what other people think about your post and what they have to add. It’s always wonderful to hear other people’s opinions, especially if they are also in your industry! Who knows, they may write an article linking to your post as a result!

Tip #10: Build a Strategy!

Just as important as it is to have actual content, you won’t maintain regular visits to your blog if your posting is all over the place or if you don’t have a schedule in place at all. It’s the same as following our favorite YouTuber, we know when they will be posting and look forward to that. No one enjoys sporadic posts every few weeks or months. That’s an easy way to lose views.

Trick #10: Introduce a Consistent Posting Schedule

Create a schedule that works best for you. It does not have to be strict and you by no means need to be posting everyday. While this depends on your industry, you really only need to be posting several times a week if your website is all about blogging such as food, fashion, or lifestyle. If you are a service provider or truly anything other than a blogging website, you should aim for posting once a week or once every two weeks.

What I have found works best for me is to have all of my content written beforehand and scheduled for a specific day and time. Once my post is published, I will update my readers on my Instagram, Facebook, and Google My Business page to remind them of it. For example, I every two weeks. All of my blog posts go out every second Tuesday at 8:00 AM CST. Yes, even when I am traveling or taking a break. This is why having all of my posts pre-written is so convenient. Plus, it’s a great organizational hack! Find what schedule works for you and try to stick to it as best as you can.

Tip #11: Try Networking!

Aside from external links, there is one more way to network that requires a bit more work. Linking is very useful, but introducing yourself to a different company’s clientele is great exposure!

Trick #11: Write a Guest Post for Someone Else’s Blog!

Offer to write a guest post on someone’s blog that you enjoy reading! It could be a person within your industry, but it certainly does not have to be! Many times people offer to choose a topic or they ask the website owner if there is a certain topic they’d like them to teach their readers about. Furthermore, you could also offer to exchange guest posts for each other which will benefit the both of you with a boost in ranking!

Phew! Hooray, you’ve reached the end! Alright, how are we feeling? Do you feel that you can put this to use on your new blog posts? You can even edit your current ones with these tips and tricks to help boost their ranking! In all seriousness, I know it can be overwhelming. I also know I have clients who don’t have the want or time to start writing, but are still interested in maintaining a blog.
